Artist has human ear grown inside his arm

A man has had a human ear grown inside his arm, all in the name of art.

The Australian performance artist  Stelarc almost lost his arm in the process of creating his ‘artwork’ which is mind-blowing in its weirdness.

It took the man a decade to find a surgeon willing to carry out the procedure, which is far from simple, as first an empty pocket under the skin had to be inflated over many months before the a basic ear-like structure was inserted.

Once inside his arm his cells have begun growing on the structure so that his new ear has its own blood supply.

We are afraid it gets weirder as Stelarc is going to insert a microphone which he will connect to the internet to allow people to hear what his arm is ‘listening to’.

The arm ear was unveiled at the launch of the Kinetica Art Fair in London this week.

“I have two perfectly good ears, but to explore the idea of me becoming an acoustic device for other people,” said the artist.
