After thousands of birds fell dead from the sky in America, and hundreds more died in Sweden, there have been fresh reports of hundreds of turtle doves being found dead in a town in northern Italy.
The latest cash of mass deaths in the animal kingdom follow millions of dead fish washing ashore in America and thousands of crabs turning up dead in England, but the latest ‘plague’ does have an explanation which will dampen the belief that the end of the world is nigh.
Up to 700 dead birds have been found in Faenza near to Bologna in recent days, but it is believed the birds have overeaten sunflower seeds, which damage their livers and kidneys.
The seeds are mostly waste from a nearby oil factory.
Mystery solved (ish).
